elementary, my dear watson.

we've had few locals suggest  mcmenamins, kennedy school for eating/hanging out, so we finally hit it up last week.

mcmenamins is a brewing company in the portland area that has taken historic buildings (vacant and sometimes condemned) and turned them into something really cool like a hotel, movie theater, concert venue, restaurant, bar, or other event gathering place.  kennedy school is one of their places that combines all of these things listed above.

kennedy school was formerly "kennedy school elementary" for almost fifty years.  several years after the district shut it down, mcmenamins came in and restored to it's current fashion. you can stay a night in an old classroom, watch a movie in the theater,  eat in their restaurant,  drink at one of the several pubs inside, dance to a local band in the "gym", or soak in their soaking pools.

we loved walking around the hallways, and checking out all the old school memorabilia, photos, and artwork covering the walls while waiting for our table in the restaurant.

if i wasn't such an old person, we would've stayed and watched a movie in the theater, but decided to save that for another night.

*ariana, let's hit up the soaking pools soon!
